about.

We are a collective of nine seasoned Black women artists.  Our group met and bonded over a year-long collaborative book arts activity, Project 2020: 9 Artists|9 Months|9 Perspectives, to visually archive our reflections, perspectives, emotions, fears, and hopes during the year 2020-2021. Our collaboration nurtured the development of a collective, Dandelion Black Women Artists, and led to several group exhibitions of the project and ideas for future collaborations.

Why the dandelion? In creating our work, many of us referenced the resiliency of dandelions and their healing powers, a metaphor for the strength, wisdom, and care embodied in Black people, women in particular, from historic to contemporary times.

Rebuttal

After 4 years of relative sanity, 2025 and a second Trump administration has fomented deeper division, distrust, and unrest. Empathy is not only absent, but considered a sin. A flurry of executive orders geared toward dismantling our human rights, including the right to peaceful protest, is sowing fear and hopelessness. Our second collaborative project, "Rebuttal" builds on themes explored in our artist's books project from 2020.  We asked ourselves, how can our art help move the country forward? Where can we find moments of joy and resilience? How can we continue to live the dream of freedom and prosperity our ancestors had for us?
